LET’S MAKE THE DIFFERENCE TOGETHER!
LET’S MAKE THE DIFFERENCE TOGETHER!
TODAY, STELL BECAME AN ANGEL. I'M STILL IN DISBELIEF.
I will forever remember your sweet, happy and smiling face.
10.16.19- HORRIBLE Turn of events Today. I can’t even believe it. I mean I can now but do not even know how to process.
RIP to sweet Stell.
Today I am full of grief and sadness. I am trying not blame but to forgive myself and others. I know in my heart of hearts that Stell had a better life once rescued than he would have had otherwise. I have to try hard not to dwell in the past and instead make decisions in the future based on what I have learned. The lessons I have learned will lead to better outcomes in the future.
I take responsibility for this and once ready, I will contunue the quest to save animals and make their lives better in boarding.
WHAT HAPPENED TO STELL ?
I was referred to a lady who had space for Stell to live and board while I found him a new home. I considered her his Foster even though I paid for him to be there and board with her. Apparently, this was not the best place for Stell and I wish I could go back and do things differently but I have to move on and now try to prevent anyone else from having to experience something like this. No one and no animal should have to suffer at the hands of a care taker. Good intentioned or not, this shouldn’t be allowed to happen. More education and funding is needed on this island so that rescue dogs like Stell, and hundreds of others have a BETTER chance of survival and adoption.
YESTERDAY: Ater being so excited yesterday about him finally going to a forever home, today's news of his sudden death while at the vets waiting for a blood transfusion was heartbreaking.
His foster mom found him not moving this morning and took him back to the vet. I had hoped it was just a reaction to the medication. I called the vet and they advised that Stell was in bad shape and was needing a blood transfusion- they described him as being very skinny and anemic. I asked for them to have the vet call me to explain what was going on . When he called me, he apologized and then told me that Stell had passed on. I’m just sick about it. I feel so sad and responsible. Today has been a tough day. The vet told me that Stell died due to a disease caused by a tick infection. This infection COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED AND IF NOTICED AND CAUGHT SOONER. THERE IS A CHANCE IT COULD HAVE BEEN TREATED without resulting in death. Apparently that area is known for having ticks. I don’t know how long he suffered. I have no idea how long he was sick and I don't know who to trust anymore.
I do know now, why I am here and what I need to do with my non profit on the Island. The people here who love pets and want to help them need help themselves. They are in dire need of education, regulation and the proper funding to help pay for food, clean shelter areas and most especially the prevention medication the dogs on this island need to survive.
There are also no regulations nor guidelines for these "shelters" or boarding centers so they provide the best they can with what they have. At least we think and hope they do. I want to believe they all have the best of intensions - not just a desire to collect money and live off of those funds.
Maybe regulations and structure are not the answer but I know there is a problem here and it needs a solution.
Some shelters here are operating with more animals than they can possibly care for and they do not have sufficient funds. Animals are being rescued them still
suffering and dying.
It is going to take a lot of effort, time and forgiveness to make a difference here. I am going to make the attempt now that I have identified at least one Big problem.
Im sorry Stell and possibly other Dogs were Victims of this.
Maybe with the proper identification then education And follow through, we can help and save a few more animals.
